Thank you so much for this! It’s so true, as someone with extreme dysmenorrhea (having to call out of work for a day or two, taking enough pain killers to kill a horse) and PMDD the first time I talked to a gynecologist about my issues my response was “I we can put you on birth control or you can go in more walks when you’re on your period”. That answer came after I explained that I’m Catholic and I do not want to be out in birth control. It’s terrible when the female gynecologists you hope will be allies in your pain tell you that this is the cost of being a woman. It’s not. Just because something is common does not mean it’s normal. Please advocate for yourself ladies because this hell that we often endure is not necessary and not inevitable. WE DESERVE GOOD AND ENJOYABLE SEX TOO!!

thank you for writing this, truly. there are so many people who go through this and yet no one ever! talks! about it!! i’m reminded of that quote from fleabag - “women are born with pain built in.” we all know it’s our birthright and because of that we think it’s all normal, no matter how severe it is. it’s exhausting carrying around so much pain all the time, feeling broken and constantly wondering if anyone will accept it all. so thank you, for accepting it all and reminding me to accept it too. 🤍

For a while I was convinced I had vaginismus because sex would be sooo painful. I think what was happening to me was psychological because I ended up meeting someone who is so patient and does their best to take care of me and now that pain doesn't happen anymore. It was almost like my body's way of rejecting the people before.
